Afan Valley Head
topography of many of the South Wales valleys has been instrumental in
their development, with a single point of access serving the whole
valley. With the removal of the point of focus at the valley head with
the decline of traditional industries, the economic outlook for the
settlements along these routes been greatly diminished.
The valleys' key asset is the setting and the natural surroundings, and
the proposal aims to take advantage of these by promoting greater
visitor numbers, and by creating opportunities for industries and craft
uses to repopulate the valley. Central to this is an educational
provision, reinforcing the local school as the centre of the community,
supporting this with a new forest school and links across into
neighbouring valley communities.
