Southwark Performing Arts Exchange
area surrounding the extensive railway infrastructure in Southwark were
investigated for development and regeneration. Through analysis of the
surrounding activities a proposal was put forward that combined
traditional craft and manufacturing facilities and a new hub for the
performing arts. The facility would provide training and expertise for
the performing arts, and also for aligned trades such as propmaking and
On the route between Southwark station and Tate Modern, the facility
would also have a major public interface, with specialist
performance spaces and public facilities, creating a new focus in this
part of the city.
Rather than being a dividing line in the fabric of the city, this
facility turns the railway infrastructure into a connecting threshold.
